Open Discussion

Hi everyone. I saw these sorts of Topic Threads in other Lounges and thought it would be neat to have one here. Any topic is open for discussion. Only rules are the basics.. no putting other people down, no foul language.

I wanted to start off talking about the weather. Yes, so cliche isn't it. But I've been hearing more and more odd weather stories. Well maybe not odd as much as not the norm. Like two major hurricanes hitting the North East two years in a row. That's not the normal weather patterns. It also proved that everyone, not just those who live farther south, need to learn how to prepare for something like that as much as they need to prepare for the winter storms.

And with the news reports of all the devastating Tornadoes that have struck across the nation, people need to be better educated about where the best places to go are. And flooding of large areas has totally scared me. When I look at news reports it makes me wonder just what's been going on in the world.

Does it make you wonder too?

First hello from the other SG team 4.
Second I dont think that the weather is really any thing more then just a return to the more normal then what we have been getting. In fact if anything what we have been living in is a period of quiet weather that seems to have kicked off some time after 1920 I remember seeing a photo from 1901 where they had to dig a tunnel from one side of main street to the other because of 10 feet of snow in one storm. I have never seen that much in my area during my whole 30 years.

Hi fellow SG'er!

Being the meteorologist that I am, I can say weather is cyclical. It ebbs and flows with the weather patterns (high pressure blocks, deep cut off trofs, El Nino, La Nina, ect). As we build out more and more, and our population continues to increase, we're going to start seeing more damage from storms that used to hit wide open plains.

I have built up a callous from all of the excessive poking, thus making me hard headed. :)
