Medical Scenario

Postby FSF Poler » Thu Jul 14, 2005 7:46 pm

The Crew of your ship is falling strangely ill, this disease makes its victims go slightly crazy, then excentric, before falling comatose and if left untreated, death results.

How would one go about researching and stopping the disease?

Call the CMO

What happens when it's on the Akira and it doesn't have a CMO or medical staff at all. ;)

I would put the effected crew members in status. I would then compare their bio reading before they became "ill" to their readings now. I would then retrace their wherabouts to see if there was a common factor involved. Based on the findings, I would come up with a treatment.

Thank you Poler for your kind words.

::thinks for a moment::

There are 2 factors involved. One, time. How long from time of infection to a comatose state. The second is uneffected crew. The effected crew would have to be put in quaritine during the investigation.

Borrowng from a second sesson episode of TNG when Dr. Pulaski became infected that caused her to age. One solution for our seniero is to load into a transporter bio readings from before they became sick and to use the transporter to filter out the infection.

Quite an interesting idea.

So your operating on a limited timetable...

Erratic Behavior lasts about two weeks... before the patient falls comatose lasting about another week before death.

That doesnt leave you with ALOT of time, and patients are EXTREMLY contagious when they are comatose, but its a touch transfered virus, not airborne.

Ok a virus transferred by touch.

I would use the EMH to collect the virus from the infected using a hypo against their fingertips. Once the virus is contained, it would be destroyed.
